NZ Young Company Finance - Issue 1 - September 2007

Welcome to the first issue of New Zealand Young Company Finance. This publication is the new industry deal monitor for the early stage investment sector and will appear quarterly. New Zealander’s are rightly proud of our history and culture of innovation. One of the key challenges facing our country going forward is our ability to turn innovation into commercial success.

Enabling young and highgrowth potential businesses to get better access to early stage funding and world class expertise will help them flourish. Successful new companies using commercialized Kiwi ingenuity usually, at least initially, develop into dynamic New Zealand-owned companies that can, and do, replace bigger companies which have become foreign-owned.

These new companies attract more capital into the New Zealand economy from both domestic and off-shore investors. Put simply, a healthy early stage deal flow is a crucial factor in our economic self-replenishment. One of the features of the New Zealand young company market is that it has a relatively low profile.

Other sectors are seen as more important and exciting. New Zealand Young Company Finance has been launched to help address this issue by providing investors and key players in the sector with a constant flow of deal information and feature stories. The New Zealand Venture Investment Fund, NZTE Escalator Service, New Zealand Venture Capital Association and Connect New Zealand have developed this publication with the express purpose of providing the local private equity market with a regular source of deal information, industry news, people profiles and features on specific deals.

It will become an important part of the market development and education around the New Zealand private equity market. Feedback on this inaugural issue is welcomed to ensure it meets the needs of readers. We look forward to providing you with a valuable market information service in the years ahead.
