Leadership Council

The council sets the Association’s strategic objectives, manages and controls the Association’s affairs, and is elected by members at the Annual General Meeting.

Suse Reynolds
Suse Reynolds is the founder of Angel HQ, the Wellington region’s angel network. She currently sits on the Board of Angel HQ and is an enthusiastic believer in the ability of angel investment to make the world a better place. Suse was formerly the Chief Operating Officer and GM Investment at Grow Wellington. Prior to that she was the Executive Director of the business lobby group, The Trade Liberalisation Network. This followed a ten year career with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade which included working for the Foreign Minister and a posting in London representing New Zealand’s trade and economic interests.
Stephen McPhail
TreasurerSteven McPhail is investment manager for BCC Limited, Chairing Kintal Apps, Member MIG angels and Director of several early stage companies. Steven co-founded and ran King Solomon Mines (2003-14) – operated in Inner Mongolia China and listed on ASX. The company raised and invested $20M in copper/gold exploration. Principal Morel & Co – Investment bank for New Zealand technology sector (1997-2003). Morel & Co established VC fund No. 8 Ventures also raised capital, negotiated sales/purchases of technology businesses and valuations.
Greg Sitters
Greg is an experienced IT professional and executive with more than 25 years working in NZ, Australia, Asia and the US. He was involved in setting up Sun Microsystems and Silicon Graphics in NZ, and has worked for these companies in NZ and overseas in executive management and international forums. He has founded three consulting companies primarily active in the IT sector across Australasia with clients including government departments and Top 10 listed companies. Greg, based in Auckland, heads up the investment committee for Sparkbox and provides expertise in sales, marketing, operations management and company strategy to portfolio companies.
Bridget Unsworth
Bridget is an Investment Director for NZVIF’s Seed Co-Investment Fund. Over the last 10 years she has worked in the venture capital, private equity and angel investment sectors in London and New Zealand. Bridget graduated with a Bachelor of Physical Education from Otago University and a Bachelor of Commerce from Victoria University, before taking a consultant role at Infinity Solutions within the Business Consulting team focusing on knowledge management and business development, based in Wellington. In 2007, Bridget worked as an investment analyst for London based placement agents MVision Private Equity Advisors, working on the investment fundraising team for many Private Equity Funds across the UK, Europe and South Africa. Bridget returned to New Zealand in 2009, and joined NZVIF in 2010.
Rudi Bublitz
Rudi started growing his angel wings in 2010. He has 25+ startup investments, already with fast fails and early exits. Originally from Germany, he co-founded an SAP implementation business in the UK that grew from 2 to 400+ consultants in under 10 years before trade sale in 1999. He is co-founder and Chief Cat Herder at FKA. His German no-nonsense attitude with little time for bullshit challenges founders positively every week at www.ADI.Clinic. He also writes for the FKA newsletter.
Brent Ogilvie
Brent Ogilvie is Managing Director of Pacific Channel, NZ’s leading venture creation, development and investment firm focused on start-up and early-stage dairy, material, life-science and clean-tech innovation.Through Pacific Channel activities as a seed investor, Brent serves as director of Footfalls & Heartbeats. He was co-founder, founding CEO and Director of Somnaceutics, which developed a sleep enhancement tonic, which was sold to New Image Group and Director of Ecodiesel a biodiesel technology company that sold its business assets to Z Energy. Brent is also founder of the China ICE Angels group. Previously he served as NZ Consul and Trade Commissioner to New York and holds a BSc. (Bio.) from the University of Waikato and an MBA from the University of Auckland.
Matthias Andermatt
Matthias has 30+ years of global business experience in C-Level roles with full P/L responsibilities for sales, marketing and production. He began his career in engineering and manufacturing, sales, marketing and biz development and has 25+ years experience in general and executive management. Industry exposure and knowledge include embedded system platforms (HW), industrial laser (HW and applications) and photonics, semiconductor back-end, printed circuit board (PCB) manufacturing, counterfeiting systems, hard metal tools, industrial automation systems, electronic packaging, industrial chemicals as well as med-tech systems. He is an angel investor who works with technology companies at the early stage.
Scott Mason
Scott Mason FCA is both the Managing Partner of Tax Advisory for Crowe Horwath Australasia and heavily involved in the early-stage company eco-system in Otago as a director, an investor, Deputy Chair of Otago Angels, and a Trustee of Start-Up Dunedin Trust.
Cecilia Tarrant
Cecilia is an angel investor and Chair of ArcAngels NZ an angel investment network that invests in women entrepreneurs. It’s members only invest in start-up/early stage/growth companies that have a women founder or women in senior management. She is a lawyer and Non-Executive or Independent Director of Seeka Limited, New Zealand and Australia’s largest fully integrated kiwifruit supply company, Payments NZ Limited, the authority on payment systems in New Zealand which manages and governs New Zealand’s core payment clearing systems in coordination with the industry. She is Chairperson of the Government Superannuation Fund Authority established in 2001 to manage and administer the New Zealand Government Superannuation Fund (“GSF”) and its related schemes. Cecilia is also Member of The University of Auckland Council and Trustee of UoA Foundation. Earlier in her career she was Managing Director of Morgan Stanley and prior to that Vice President of Credit Suisse First Boston.
Robbie Paul
Robbie is the CEO of Ice Angels the largest and most active angel investment network in Australasia and Managing Partner of Tuhua Ventures which has made investments in Avertana, Nyriad, 90 Seconds, Sunfed, Qotient and Spoke among others. He is Founder/Director of First Cut Ventures run by a small team of high-performing students who develop, engage with, and invest in the New Zealand entrepreneurial ecosystem. In alliance with the ICE Angels, First Cut supports and invests in entrepreneurs under 30. Robbie is also an investor in Avertana, Shuttlerock, Quiver, Parrot Analytics, 1Above Aerotonic Flight Beverage, Booktrack.
Catherine Clennett
Cathy is a leader of Venture Taranaki, Executive Director at Hiringa Energy Ltd and has a history in the Energy sectors’ development including earlier in her career with Rio Tinto and Hydro Electric Commission, Woodside Energy, Capra Group Pty Ltd and then the Todd Corporation where she led the Group’s technology investment strategy and was acontributor to development of investment strategies for a diverse range of sectors. She also has significant experience in telecommunications and constructions with EasyMoble (Talkmore, Australia), the development of Equinix data centres in Texas and New Jersey and spent two years in Copenhagen, Denmark undertaking strategic and business planning for European and US based technology start-ups.
Nina Le Lievre
Nina joined Enterprise Angels (EA) as Manager in 2013. Prior to this, Nina worked in investment banking in London and New Zealand for ten years. The switch to the angel industry has been really rewarding with valuable hands-on experience gained over the last five years during which time EA has invested in 48 early stage companies. Nina’s role involves working with prospective investee companies including undertaking due diligence and negotiating terms, as well as managing the day to day operations of the 6 person professional team. Nina has been instrumental in the launch and management of two early stage funds, EA Fund 1 and EA Fund 2, as well as the launch of AngelEquity, an online angel investing platform, where wholesale investors can invest alongside angels.
Richard Coon
Richard, a qualified accountant with a Harvard MBA, describes himself as a serial entrepreneur. His businesses include one of the UK’s leading personnel management software companies, following the sale of which he moved to New Zealand, where his successes include Sovereign Assurance, Seniors Money and Partners Life. He is also a trustee of the Laurie Coon Foundation, dedicated to helping young New Zealanders achieve their aspirations and is the Founding Chairman of Angel Investors Marlborough (AIM).
